(Noun 1). A heavy waterproof coat, usually with a hood. From the the Greenlandic (Kalaallisut) word annoraaq. In use since the 1930s.

(Noun 2). Someone who has a strong or obsessive interest in niche subjects. It is commonly associated with trainspotters (who typically wear anoraks when standing on cold station platforms) but was originally used to describe people with a strange interest in pirate radio stations who wore the garments on boats when trying to see or visit the floating broadcast stations.
